McLaren’s newest model is the 720S, and it’s already selling well. That’s especially true in its most lucrative market, North America. But that doesn’t mean the British automaker has plenty of money in the bank. In fact, McLaren needs more cash than ever before.
That’s why it’s reportedly selling cars from its heritage collection. The company hasn’t disclosed which cars are going to be sold in order to raise funds, but it did say that its main shareholder — Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat Holding — is supporting it with an additional capital injection. That’s after the company was forced to seek out a cash infusion to develop “certain technical upgrades” that triggered delivery delays for its plug-in hybrid Artura supercar, a McLaren spokesman told Bloomberg during the earnings call last week.
The company is also facing supply chain problems for the critical components needed to make its vehicles. As a result, it may need to produce some of its own semiconductor chips and batteries. Despite these issues, Flewitt is confident that McLaren will be able to overcome them and report strong financial results in 2023. He points out that 720S production is well ahead of schedule, and that orders for the Ultimate Series remain at 100% capacity. “We expect a strong showing from the North American market as 720S production gets into full swing and the McLaren Senna and another future model codenamed BP23 go into production,” he said.
It’s also worth noting that McLaren’s sales in North America haven’t suffered during this financial crisis. In fact, that region represents its biggest audience by a significant margin over Europe.
The 750S isn’t the most expensive McLaren ever built, but it still costs more than any other car on sale today. It’s also arguably the fastest road-going McLaren. With an impressive top speed of more than 200 miles per hour, the 750S has the potential to blow many of its competitors out of the water, and it’s sure to become a favorite among supercar enthusiasts around the world.
That’s why it’s a shame to see the company put some of its illustrious cars up for sale. The McLaren F1 is one of the most coveted cars in the world, and its scarcity makes it even more desirable. And yet, the company is selling it for a whopping $28 million. The auction takes place at the Gooding Auctions facility in Pebble Beach, California. You can bid in person or online, and you’ll be able to see the car up close before the bidding begins. To learn more, check out the listing here. mclaren for sale
